Egypt Mythology, collection of legends of ancient Egypt
Egyptian legends are a collection of legends of ancient Egypt, which describe the works of the Egyptian gods as a means of understanding the world. The belief that these legends are an important part of the ancient Egyptian religion. Myths often appear in Egyptian writing and art, especially in short stories and in religious subjects such as hymns, liturgical texts, funerary texts and temple decorations. These sources rarely contain complete reports of legends and often describe only short fragments.
Like myths in many other cultures, the Egyptian myth serves to justify human traditions and answer basic questions around the world, such as the nature of chaos and the ultimate destiny of the universe. The Egyptians explain these fundamental issues through statements about the gods.
Egyptian gods represent natural phenomena, from material objects such as earth or sun to abstract forces such as knowledge and creativity. Egyptians believe that the actions and opinions of the gods govern the behavior of all these forces and elements. For the most part, Egyptians do not describe this ambiguous process of clear theological writing. On the contrary, the relationship and interaction between the gods illustrate these processes implicitly.
Most Egyptian gods, including many major gods, have no important role in mythical narratives, although their nature and their relationship with other gods are often formed in lists or naked statements without narration. For the gods involved in narrative, mythological events are an important expression of their role in the universe. Therefore, if narratives are only legends, legends are a key element in Egyptian religious understanding, but not as important as other cultures.
